EXCEPTIONAL LAW ENFORCEMENT AND CRIMINAL JUSTICE LEGAL PROFESSIONAL
Dr. Holland D. Jones is originally from Houston, Texas. Upon graduation from high school, Captain Jones served as a Gunner’s Mate, in the U.S. Navy, where he was honorably discharged in 1994. Captain Jones attended the University of Houston-Downtown and University of Texas Police Academies, in which he graduated with honors, as Class President. He joined the Harris County (TX) Constable Office of Precinct 7, where he successfully worked his way up through the command ranks from a reserve deputy to the rank of Captain.
His educational accomplishments include completion of the Executives Development Institute from Northwestern University’s Center for Public Safety; a Master’s Degree in Criminology from University of Houston Clear-Lake; and a certification in the Management of the Small Law Enforcement Agency (M.S.L.E.A) from the University of Louisville’s Southern Police Institute. Captain Jones also holds a Master Peace Officer Certification, a TCOLE Instructor Certification, a Field Training Instructor Certification, a Crisis Intervention Certification, and Emergency Management Certifications.
As an accomplished and highly dedicated commander and 20-year veteran of the law enforcement profession, Captain Jones has served in a variety of assignments, including Patrol (Civil Division), Sergeant (Contract Division), Chief of Police, Assistant Chief Deputy, Sergeant (Patrol and Special Operations), Law Enforcement Manager, Certified Staff Inspector with the University of Texas Police Department, Training Coordinator, and Commander of the Toll Road Operations. Despite all of Captain Jones’ accomplishments, he is recognized for his commitment, volunteerism, and his mentorship within the Law Enforcement Community.
Captain Holland Jones, as an Attorney-at-Law, is licensed to practice law by the State Bar of Texas. In 2002, he earned a Doctor of Jurisprudence from Thurgood Marshall Law School. He was also the President of his 1st year law school class and completed externships with the Harris County District Attorney’s Office and the Fort Bend County District Attorney’s Office. Since 2004, Captain Jones has practiced primarily family law and employment law with respect to the wrongful termination of police officers. He defends the honor and reputation of police officers in District Courts. By committing to address client concerns with effective solutions, he successfully negotiated numerous cases, which often involved difficult and complex Chapter 614 litigation. Where it is not possible to reach an amicable settlement pre-litigation, Captain Jones provides strong, decisive representation in court proceedings, advancing and protecting his clients’ interests. He has an outstanding knowledge of the law, makes the often-complex legal process readily understandable to his clients, and maintains a good reputation within the legal profession.
In 2016, Captain Holland Jones earned his Doctorate in “Administration of Justice” from Texas Southern University’s Barbara Jordan Mickey-Leland School of Public Affairs. He is also recognized as a graduate of Sam Houston State University’s Bill Blackwood Law Enforcement Management Institute of Texas’s (LEMIT) New Police Chief Course, the Texas Police Chief Leadership Series, and the prestigious Leadership Command College (LCC). Drawing on his extensive investigative experience and academic research, Captain Jones focused his doctoral studies on the existence of statistically significant racial disparities within traffic law enforcement initiatives carried out by Sheriff ’s Offices in the State of Texas. Captain Jones is currently an Adjunct Professor at Texas Southern University, formerly with Kaplan University and the Sam Houston State University. Dr. Holland D. Jones is also a proud byproduct of Houston Community College.
Captain Jones has seen every episode of Game of Thrones, at least twice, and he relates to House Stark the most because of their altruistic dedication to servant leadership. Captain Jones loves his family, enjoys playing paintball, and chess. He would also absolutely love to have either a Siberian Husky or a Dire Wolf.
