Update 4 on Barge Collision
City officials continue to monitor recovery efforts and air and water quality impacts from the Bayport Channel Collision. Unified Command will have water quality testing teams responding to the incident and they may be contacting home and property owners along Galveston Bay to conduct water sampling. Shoreline residents wishing to verify the identity of spill response personnel seeking access to property may call 281-757-3017.
If anyone discovers marine or wildlife that may have been impacted by this event, please report it to the TX GLO hotline at 800-832-8224. The Texas Dept. of State Health Services continues to warn against eating seafood that smells or tastes like oil or gas, regardless of where caught. We received confirmation that the Clear Creek Channel has been reopened to all boaters. While WCID #12 has confirmed that the drinking water supply is safe and unaffected, please be advised of Unified Command's warnings to avoid contact with water that may have been impacted by the gasoline blend stock product released into Galveston Bay. That guidance includes:
- Avoiding all visible sheens on the water
- Thoroughly washing any impacted skin with soap and water
- Staying clear of containment boom on the water and against the shoreline
